The project of reconstruction of Kontraktova Ploshcha is a part of the city strategic initiative Kyiv Samobutniy (Authentic Kyiv), which provides for the preservation and restoration of the historical space of Podil and Dnipro slopes. In 2015 according to this program, Kontrakt architectural competition was held in which the first prize was awarded to the project Kyivska Vitalna (Kyiv Living Room) (project ID 150524), whose team consisted of 10 participants (Vlodko Zotov, Viktor Herasymenko, Serhii Ferley, Mariia Pakhomova, Oleksii Pakhomov, Egor Shtefan, Anton Oliinyk, Olga Prokopenko, Olena Orap, Denys Matviyenko). After the specification of the design task, other participants joined the project and added new meanings and content to the project, the design solutions were adjusted to the new requirements. The project was called: Nova Kontraktova.
The project was called: Nova Kontraktova. The general idea of creating a city garden has been preserved, as well as the main design decisions. The project began to be implemented in 2018 solving the most pressing problems. First, the reorganization of the traffic on the historic Podil and transformation of Sahaidachny str. into pedestrianized street, then the parking schema change and Square of Contracts area freeing from cars. Then the dismantling of about 40 kiosks and the restoration of garden square No. 3 under KOTSIUBA Landscape Studio project. Now there is work on the project in terms of the development of engineering solutions and their coordination with the city services.
